Communications Center - Starting on September 29, 2004 the Town of Tryon switched to a 12 hour day shift communications center only.  This service will be available from 7 AM until 7 PM, seven days a week.  After 7 PM, all calls to Tryon will be routed either to an answering service or the Polk County Sheriffs Office.

The Communications Center will connect the public to Police, Fire and Town services during the day.  The Tryon Communications Center can operate on nineteen different radio frequencies and has radio contact with the Polk, Rutherford and Henderson County Sheriffs Offices, other  local police departments including Landrum, South Carolina and also the Fire Departments, Emergency Medical Services and Rescue Squad for Polk County.

The Communications Center has access to the State Bureau of Investigations' Division of Criminal Information (D.C.I.) network, which allows the dispatchers on duty to obtain information on vehicle registration, drivers license information, wanted & missing persons, stolen vehicles/guns/property, and criminal history information.

The Communications Center uses a computerized call log system by Southern Software.  Currently, there are two full-time Dispatchers for the Department: Jack Hardin and  Blake Arledge.  The full time employees are supplemented by the Reserve Dispatch unit, who fill in when needed for sick time or vacation, they are:  Theda Rickman, Susan Blanton, Tim Wright, and Scott Lindsey.
